With a heady and compelling mix of ultra-ripe red and black fruit layered with notes of smoked herbs and exotic spices, the full-throttle 2013 Schrader T6 is the most provocative wine in our portfolio. The layers of black fruit continue to dance with the spice on the palate and lead to an incredibly pleasurable mouthfeel with a finish that lasts a lifetime. A perennial stunner, in the words of winemaker Thomas Brown, “The Schrader T6 is all about everything in abundance and everything in perfect balance.”

98 Pts. “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon T6, which is clone 6, offers more barbecue smoke, roasted meats and oodles of creme de cassis and blackberry. It is rich, full-bodied, intense, and stunningly pure and well-balanced. This is another tour de force from the Schraders and Thomas Rivers Brown. It should drink well for 25-30 years as well.”
      — Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

96 Pts. “Very exotic aromas of tobacco leaf, Thai green chili, black currant and blueberry. Full body, chewy and powerful tannins. Fresh and clean. Muscular and powerful. Better in 2020 when it comes together.”

Hillside Select® is a classic, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from our rugged hillside vineyards in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District.

    RP98 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Made entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2009 Hillside Select has a deep garnet color. Wow—it explodes from the glass with this atomic nose of crème de cassis, Black Forest cake, baked plums and boysenberries plus hints of licorice, mocha, cedar chest and pencil lead with a waft of garrigue. Full-bodied, the palate is a concentrated, full-on behemoth, possessing fantastic balance and expressiveness, finishing with epic length and a fantastically velvety texture. Rating: 98+

    TP97 – Tasting Panel
Ripe and rich with exquisite plum, blueberry, rich cassis and sweet oak; beautifully structured, built to last with hints of licorice and spice; long, elegant and polished.

    95 – Connoisseurs’ Guide
As always a decidedly extravagant wine and one that marches right to the very brink of being too much of good thing, the latest Hillside Select will be frowned upon by those who find unabashed richness and size to be faults and joyously celebrated by those of us who do not. It is powerful stuff that is marvelously deep in near-juicy fruit, and it is lavishly appointed with lovely oak, but for all of its largesse, it is solidly built with the structure to age for years. We have seen how its fully ripe predecessors have flourished with time, and we have no doubt that this one will do the same.

Representing a breathtaking advancement over the ’07, Sinatra’s 2008 Cab is simply delicious. It’s fleshy and fat in texture, with a glyceriney richness that makes it almost oily and that, when combined with caramelized oak, turns into nougat. The blackberry, cherry and cassis fruit flavors rise to the occasion. This is truly a stunningly good Cabernet.

Bright red-ruby. Ripe, soil-driven aromas of cherry, loam, licorice, minerals, bitter chocolate and flowers. A suave, juicy midweight with no excess fat to its pliant flavors of black cherry and flowers. Boasts excellent definition and balance. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and lovely persistence. Classy wine.

I loved the Sinatra Family Estates- 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2008 is another successful effort, although perhaps not quite as riveting as the 2007. A joint project between the Sinatra family and some people in Las Vegas, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a dense ruby/purple color in addition to a sweet bouquet of black currants, cedar and spice, an appealing texture and lushness, medium to full body and a velvety texture. This delicious, complex, evolved 2008 is ideal for drinking over the next 10-15 years.

This is a special limited-edition bottling of single malt Scotch whisky that was released as part of a collaboration between Diageo and US TV network HBO, producers of the enormously successful Game of Thrones series. The show served as inspiration for each of the whiskies, which were paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros.

In this case the fab Cardhu Gold Reserve was bestowed with the House Targaryen. They’re the ones with the dragons and stuff, as well as Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke), who you’ll probably recognise as she’s a major character in the show. Their house words are ‘Fire and Blood’, but they can now update them to ‘Fire, Blood and lovely Scotch’. Did I mention this is the house with the dragons? It’s worth saying twice. There’s even a dragon on the label, in case you don’t believe us.

Cardhu Gold Reserve is a no age statement single malt that was crafted using hand-picked toasted oak casks and first released in 2014.

Nose: Honeyed tinned stone fruits, toffees and a hint of strawberry with red apple and ginger coming through with a little water.

Palate: Fairly dry with biscuity oak and a little cinnamon as well as some development of those toffee and apple notes.

Finish: Gentle oak and (milk chocolate) caramel digestives.

Overall: Described as a “generous” whisky, it’s a description that matches both the nose and its general easy-drinking nature.

1972 Michel Firino Martell (MFM) Bas Armagnac Limited Edition (1 of 464)

    Made by Gelas

Selected by Michel Firino Martell few years ago and aged in the cellars of Gélas house, this cuvée in limited edition of 48 years old is made exclusively of a very fine Ugni Blanc and intense Baco of vintage 1972, coming more precisely from the best terroir of exception in Armagnac: Bas-Armagnac.

Ugni Blanc is a variety of grape of excellence in the Gers county and also known in Charente county and very used by Cognac producers because after distillation the “eaux-de-vie” are fine and top quality.

Baco Blanc or Baco 22A is a French-American hybrid grape variety. It is a cross of Folle Blanche and the Noah grape, created in the 1898 by the grape breeder François Baco. The “eaux-de-vie” after a long ageing in humid cellars are a great finesse and an extreme complexity.

The bottling was done during the month of November 2019. With a production of bottles only numbered from 1 to 464, this unique single cask number 542 of 1972 « Michel Firino Martell » aged in the same barrel, un-chilled filtered, give us an exceptional Armagnac of great roundness, a superb finesse, an amazing smoothness and full body.

This M.F.M. Bas-Armagnac vintage 1972 is for great amateurs of spirits who want to enjoy a good after dinner-drink or for some who wish to pair it during a long gastronomic meal or with an excellent Cuban cigar.

House Tully & Singleton of Glendullan Reserve – Game of Thrones (GOT) Single Malts Collection, 40%, 75cl (USA bottling)

The Singleton Glendullan Reserve was crafted in Speyside’s legendary Dufftown, which produces more malt whisky than any other town in Scotland. Glendullan is located on the banks of the River Fiddich, so its fitting that it was paired with House Tully at Riverrun, which is in the region known as The Riverlands. This single malt Scotch whisky is decorated with a jumping trout – the sigil of House Tully.

The light straw shimmer of this liquid hints at the cask lineage of this Single Malt that is 100% ex-Bourbon casks; that’s confirmed by the heavy Madagascar vanilla opening on the nose followed by a suggestion of sweet, clove spice that develops over time. On the palate it’s initially driven by orchard fruits like apple; the clove returns but now with cinnamon as the palate develops. The finish moves away from citrus into a red berry compote with vanilla cheesecake and a pronounced cereal spice finish.

The J. Dupont VSOP Art Nouveau is an annual limited edition (only 10,000 bottles are produced each year) that really does highlight how good a VSOP level Cognac can be. This is certainly no run-of-the-mill offering, and it’s certainly one that will grace the very smartest of occasions. As with all of the J. Dupont range, it screams quality from every angle. We love the clean lined, contemporary bottle and presentation case, and of course, the tasting experience is also everything you hope it will be.

If there were a single word that could be used to describe this Cognac, it would have to be, ‘elegant’. From the first sighting of it’s golden robe, through the aroma, taste, and rounded finish, this is a great Cognac through and through. This is also echoed by its multi-award winning status, further proof that this is a Cognac that’s worth every cent of its modest price tag.
