Another magical wine from this property, the 2009 Château Cos D’Estournel reminds me slightly of the 2005 with its incredibly rich, powerful, opulent style married to stunning finesse and elegance. Still youthful yet with a touch of maturity, its deep ruby/plum color is followed by classic Saint-Estèphe notes of blackcurrants, dried tobacco, loamy earth, Asian spices, and licorice. Deep, full-bodied, and massive on the palate, it’s flawlessly balanced and has building tannins hiding under its wealth of fruit, with no hard edges and a great, great finish. This tour de force is still 5-7 years away from maturity and is a legendary wine to follow over the coming 40-50 years.

    100 points Wine Advocate

One of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted, the monumental 2009 Cos d’Estournel has lived up to its pre-bottling potential. A remarkable effort from winemaking guru Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot (33%) and a touch of Cabernet Franc (2%) was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare. It boasts an inky/black/purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of white flowers interwoven with blackberry and blueberry liqueur, incense, charcoal and graphite. The wine hits the palate with extraordinary purity, balance and intensity as well as perfect equilibrium, and a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, wood and alcohol. An iconic wine as well as a remarkable achievement, it is the greatest Cos d’Estournel ever produced. It is approachable enough at present that one could appreciate it with several hours of decanting, but it will not hit its prime for a decade, and should age effortlessly for a half century.

A very bold, ripe and complex wine with excellent concentration and a warm, engaging personality (cinnamon and allspice) that’s hard to resist. With aeration a hint of dried fruit character emerges. Massive, yet polished finish.

This shows why everyone loves the vintage. Features a gorgeous display of perfectly melded plum, red currant and blackberry fruit that flows beautifully over very creamy tannins. Still nearly all fruit, with flecks of warm stone and iron on the finish. This could easily sit in this phase for some time, but will be hard to resist. Totally modern and beautifully done.

The earthy, smoky notes intermixed with notions of black fruits and road tar found in this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot are classic Graves traits. Sweet, dense fruit, with tremendous opulence, a layered mouthfeel, and excellent purity, freshness, and ripe tannins are displayed in abundance in this beautifully made offering from proprietor Helene Garcin. It should age effortlessly for 20 years. Range: 92-94+

A wine that offers all the right characters. The fruit has a lively, vivid juiciness, with sweet berry fruits. The tannins have just a touch of toast, but essentially come from the dense fruit.

Showing the serious side of Lafite, this is big and dark, powered by tannins as much as fruit. The wood aging is still showing, although that will integrate into the great structure that holds up the ripe black currant fruits. Totally dominated by some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux, this wine has strength while also having great freshness. Drink from 2024.

Superb structure for the vintage with blackcurrants, cedar, mushroom and sweet tobacco character. Full-bodied yet reserved and tight with an impressive density. Long finish. Better in 2020.

This has a dark, smoky edge from the start, with smoldering tobacco and grilled savory notes lining the core of steeped plum, macerated black currant and lightly mulled cherry fruit. Shows a loamy, smoky edge to the finish, with the tobacco hint peeking out. Features admirable range, depth and grip, with just a twinge of the vintage’s austerity lurking. Best from 2018 through 2030.

With the threat of botrytis—the noble rot responsible for some of the world’s greatest dessert wines, but not particularly favorable in red wines—sorting became paramount in 2012, and that is where the history and the experience of the Lafite team came in handy. The winery comments, “Protection against disease was not easy; winegrowers and vineyard managers needed to apply all of their skill and experience. At the end of August, in the beautiful weather, we observed the onset of uneven ripening, which made it difficult to decide which plots to harvest first.” The 2012 Château Lafite Rothschild exhibits bright red and black currants, with some mineral notes, and youthful oak. Time will settle this wine down, and it should reach its equilibrium as it approaches a decade in the cellar. (Tasted: April 15, 2013, Pauillac, France) Barrel Sample: 92-94

The 2012 Lafite Rothschild, representing only 38% of their total production, is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance mostly Merlot. It is a very stylish, elegant, yet concentrated Lafite Rothschild with an opaque ruby/purple color, soft well-integrated tannins, nice integrated oak, acidity and alcohol. Lafites’s 2012 reveals good, opaque, ruby/purple color and plenty of lead pencil and blackcurrant fruit. The wine is medium-bodied and should hit its prime 2020-2035.

Maison Boinaud Lordly Blended Whisky (Just for Kings) 40% 70cl (with gift box) comes with a cool eagle head

Lordly is a blended whisky, made from whisky produced in Scotland and in France. The blend has received a finish in cognac casks that previously held De Luze Cognac.

The company behind this product is Maison Boinaud, a company that has produced cognac for 24 generations. They are today the largest land owner in Grand Champagne, and own brands like De Luze, Naulin and J. Dupont.

The bottle for Lordly is very easy to spot due to the rather extravagant stopper. It is all summed up with the subtitle Just for Kings.

Nose: Malt, strawberries, and vanilla. Rather mild on the nose.

Taste: Soft and with medium body. Vanilla, sweet apples, and white pepper. Perfume and floral notes.

Finish: Short to medium long finish. Less sweet now, more spicy. Appears more watery towards the end. A touch astringent – a little dry.

    MADE IN THE USA

Launched in 1998, Meyer Lemon was the first 100% fresh fruit flavored vodka in the US. Only made once a year, from organically grown, tree-ripened Meyer Lemons from Lemon Cove in CA. Within 24 hours of being picked they are delivered to our Distillery. For a true flavor of the fruit, the lemons are shredded, zest and all, then put through a 68-day extraction process. What you taste is 100% real, freshly picked Meyer Lemon – as if you are biting into the whole fruit!

“…an excellent example of what lemon-infused vodka should be”. – Drinkhacker.com

Perfect on the rocks, straight up on mixed into your favorite cocktail, this vodka is smooth, delicious and has real, clean fruit flavors.

What you taste are 100% real Meyer Lemons – not essences or so-called “natural flavoring.” Meyer Lemons are thought to have originated in China and were introduced in the U.S. in 1908. They are believed to be a cross between a standard lemon and a mandarin orange .Serving Suggestions: On the rocks, with a splash of soda or as CHARBAY Meyer Lemon Drop.

Subtle, sweet and spicy Speyside single malt from closed distillery Convalmore. Predominant notes are all from the bakery: buttery pastry cases, green fruits and a little citrus, followed by intense brown sugar sweetness and spice. A characterful and well-balanced example of this little-known distillery’s style, long-aged in refill American oak hogsheads.

Convalmore was opened in 1894 just outside Dufftown, and closed for the final time in 1985 – a year after this whisky was distilled.

    MAYA 1996

Maya was destined to be a winemaker. In 1986, the year she was conceived, her parents, Naoko and Gustav, made their first vintage of estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon. The following year—the year she was born—they planted Maya’s Vineyard, a 5-acre block of Cabernet Sauvignon that has become one of the most revered winegrowing sites in America. In 1992, this remarkable vineyard yielded a wine that would go on to earn Dalla Valle’s first perfect 100-point score from legendary critic Robert Parker. Growing up at Dalla Valle in the company of winemakers like Heidi Barrett, Tony Soter and Mia Klein infused Maya’s formative years with a sense of place and purpose that has come to define her adult life.

    Winemaker Notes

Deep, dense violet to garnet red in color. Aromas come through as more advanced with hints of licorice, black cherry, and violets. Well-melded flavors of licorice, tannins more moderate, great mouth feel with great integration. Very young and very alive; full of energy and fresh, good acidity. The alcohol structure is more velvety with good glycerin levels. Juicy with good pronounced texture.

    Critical Acclaim

    RP96Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 1996 Maya is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Vivid, intense aromas of new saddle leather, plums, black currants, underbrush, and licorice are followed by a full-bodied, sensationally concentrated wine with sweet tannin, a deep, exceptionally pure and concentrated mid-palate, and an opulently-textured finish. It was surprisingly open-knit and delicious when tasted in October, but there is more tannin lurking beneath the surface. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2025.

    WS92 – Wine Spectator
Bold, ripe and generous. Dark in color, this is very rich and concentrated without being heavy. The flavors are built around ripe blackberry, cherry, mineral and herbal sage notes. Ends with a complex aftertaste and firm but ripe tannins. Easily the best of three bottles.

    Winemaker Notes

Aromas and flavors of candied cherries, currant, black tea andcardamom come to the surface of this youthful wine. The mid-palate impression is generous, structured, and round, with bright red fruit and Asian spice flavors lingering on a very long finish. This is a wine that, while accessible now, will absolutely age well.

    MAYA 2012

    Winemaker Notes (2012)

The 2012 Maya is powerful, dense, but beautifully balanced and precise. Each of the varieties delivers its best attributes—dark brambly fruit and a silky, expansive palate impression from the Cabernet Sauvignon, and exotic spice notes and power from the Cabernet Franc. It is exciting to see such intensity and balance together in one package. The wine certainly benefits from decanting in its current youthful state, but should continue to open and develop over the years in the bottle. This vintage of Maya will certainly age nicely for decades to come.

    RP98 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Dalla Valle was the first winery to demonstrate what heights Cabernet Franc could reach in the valley with their Maya proprietary blend, which averages 50-55% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2012 Maya is a spectacular offering. I recently had the 1991 (made by Tony Soter) and it is still drinking exceptionally well. In fact, it could still be called an adolescent at 23 years of age. The 2012 Maya is already revealing great complexity with notes of forest floor, licorice, truffles, red and blackcurrants and a hint of graphite. The beautiful aromatics are followed by an equally majestic, full-bodied, multidimensional wine of great class and elegance. This sensational effort should drink well for 25-30 years.
